OWH Sketch Challenge 209

Finally got my sketch challenge card done!  I made this card for Operation Write Home's Sketch Challenge 209.  The digi is from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics.  Star paper is from Recollections, sentiment stamp is unknown.  Also used:   MFT Fishtail banner dies, Spellbinders circle and star dies, and Candi dots.  The red dot was a white Candi dot which I colored with a red Copic. Another thing I do for the Candi dots is to use a regular hole punch (the one for punching binder paper sized holes) and punch out circles from 3M foam tape (the Precious).  I like these better than using the adhesive dots made for the Candis.  Also, the leftover bit of the Precious can still be used as backing behind any future items.  Even though the foam has holes punched in it, enough structural strength remains to work just fine.  No waste!

Hope you enjoyed my card.  Can't wait to see the upcoming sketch on Sunday!

Howdy Cowboy

Digi image and sentiment from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics.  My Mind's Eye Boy Crazy diamond paper, Darice Stars embossing folder, MFT tag die, OWH sketch 19.  The MME paper was from a 12x12 sheet.  I also have the 6x6 pad, so I made three more cards using the smaller patterned paper.

Kind of interesting to see the smaller patterns contrasted with the larger one.  Because the pattern was so much smaller on these cards, I changed out the embossing folder to Cuttlebug's Distressed Stripes.

Dress-Up Bear

I was looking through my PcCrafter Hugware and thought I'd use a pre-colored image from Carolee Jones' collection, Busy Busy Bears V3, for a card.  Pattern papers are from Echo Park and the sentiment and tab die are from My Favorite Things; sketch is OWH number 30.

Big Hugs Charlie

Card I made today using a digi from The Stamp Fairy called Charlie Happy Life. He's colored with Copics and the sentiment is from My Favorite Things.  Dies used are Spellbinders circles and My Favorite Things Fishtail Banners.  Paper is from Basic Grey Oliver.  I'm tempted to make three like this and three with another Basic Grey paper called Olivia.  It would be fun to see him in another color palette.

Updated 01/15/2014 to add card made with Olivia Basic Grey paper.

OWH Sketch Challenge 207

Many years ago my husband and I had a Conure named Buddy.  He was a very fun little guy, but boy, he could bite us a good one when he had a mind to!  We don't have Buddy anymore (but we do have a very nice female Superb Parrot named Tweeter whom we've had for the past twenty-five years or so).   Since we love birds and the Hero Arts bird reminds me of the Conure we had so long ago,  I'm guessing that's why I'm so taken with this little bird from the new OWH fundraiser set from Hero Arts. This week's OWH Sketch Challenge 207 gave me an opportunity to make some more cards with him.  The dot paper is from Fancy Pants Designs Off to School and the squares were cut with Spellbinders square dies.  I haven't done it yet, but I will be adding Glossy Accents to his eyes for a bit of dimension.

Just a quick note if anyone is as leery as I am of cutting those small strips for that bit on the right:  I cut my strip from a 1-/34" square about 1/2" wide then simply trimmed it to to fit after gluing it down to the card base.  (All of the square pieces are first glued on top of a 4" x 2" strip of black cardstock and I just let that little piece hang off the end. Next I attached that unit to the dot background piece and then trimmed both the right side and the left side to make sure everything was even.)   Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for visiting and I hope you are having a great day!

OWH Sketch 206

I'm not too sure about this card because those little robots kind of creep me out.  The papers are from My Mind's Eye Boy Crazy 6x6 paper pad.  I love all the other papers, but those little guys are kind of fierce looking!  The gears are made from Spellbinders Sprockets dies and the sentiment is computer generated using font OCR A Extended.  The layout for this card is Operation Write Home's sketch 206.

OWH Sketch 205

My husband and I recently went to Lacey, WA to visit Cabella's and I decided a side trip to a local rubber stamp store called Art 'n Soul would be fun to fit in too.  Luckily for me, they were having a garage sale of their customers' excess stamps.  I was able to get this cute Donald Duck stamp for fifty cents!  I colored him with Copics and added a sentiment from My Favorite Things. I used Operation Write Home's sketch 205 for the layout.  I don't have any information on the designer paper, but I did get it from my local scrapbooking store's store clearance section quite awhile ago, and I was really pleased to get it used up.

OWH Sketch 204

I was having so many problems with Photobucket not loading  (ever!) during the month of December that I decided to take some time off from blogging to help with the ol' frustration level.  While Photobucket is still extremely slow, I was able to upload some cards, so hopefully I can keep posting again.

I made this card using Operation Write Home's sketch 204 using Magenta's Chickadee stamp and a sentiment stamp from Stampin' Up!'s Wetlands set.  I stamped the chickadee with Ranger Walnut distress ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder for some added dimension.  Paper is from Basic Grey and I added a line of dry embossing instead of three elements at the bottom using a Cuttlebug embossing border folder called Organic Flourish.
