OWH Design Bootcamp - Let Me Repeat - and OWH Sketch Challenge 178

I decided to use this week's OWH Sketch Challenge 178 to make some cards using the design principles from this month's OWH Bootcamp Let Me Repeat (Using Repetition in Design).

Card #1 uses repeating pattern papers and colors.
  • Rubber Stampede Daisy Stem stamp colored with Momento Markers before stamping
  • Candi Dots
  • Fiskars sentiment stamp
  • Recollections papers
  • My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner die
Card #2 uses repeating colors and shapes.  The stripe paper is mirrored in the lines of the flowers, the yellow dots are repeated by the little yellow flowers, and I think the swirl pattern in the green paper mimics the swirl look to the floral digi and sentiment.
  • Digi from Digital 2 for Tuesday colored with Copics
  • Computer generated sentiment using SF Infinity Bold font
  • DoveCraft Garden Party papers
  • My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner die
  • Candi Dots
Card #3 uses repeating colors and shapes.
  • Hampton Arts/Studio g sentiment stamp colored with Mementos markers before stamping
  • Penny Black Salutations flowers stamped with coordinating Mementos dye inks
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Herringbone
  • DCWV stripe paper
  • MFT Fishtail Banner die
Thanks for visiting my blog and seeing the cards I made using this week's sketch and this month's bootcamp principles.

Christmas in June with Merry Monday

I have started working on Christmas themed cards for OWH.  I thought it would be fun to try some Merry Monday sketches since they are pretty straight-forward in design and suites my style.  Here is the link to the Merry Monday blog in case you would like to visit the site:  Merry Monday (Always Playing with Paper).  There are a lot of great sketches and beautiful cards to be seen!

  • Merry Monday Sketch #1
  • Pre-colored digi from Laurie Furnell's collection A Christmas Sampler 3 from PcCrafter
  • Verve sentiment stamp
  • Stampin' Up windows punch
  • Spellbinders Ovals and Scalloped Ovals dies
  • Echo Park papers
  • Merry Monday Sketch #2
  • Pre-colored digi from Laurie Furnell's collection Santa from PcCrafter
  • Sentiment stamp from PaperTrey Ink
  • Echo Park papers
  • Stampin' Up! Adorning Accent border die
  • Merry Monday Sketch #3
  • Pre-colored digi from Laurie Furnell's collection Christmas Sampler 4 from PcCrafter. cut out
  • Spellbinders Oval dies
  • My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner die
  • Echo Park papers
  • Merry Monday Sketch #4
  • Pre-colored digi from Shelly Comiskey's collection Santa Claus & Company from Daisy Company (and it's still available!)
  • Recollections papers
  • Spellbinders Circle dies
  • Merry Monday Sketch #5
  • Pre-colored digi from Teresa Kogut's collection Christmas Snowman from PcCrafter
  • DCWV papers
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp
  • Spellbinders Circle dies
  • Merry Monday Sketch #6
  • Pre-colored digi from Laurie Furnell's collection A Christmas Sampler 3 from PcCrafter
  • Echo Park papers
I've used the ideas from our last OWH Bootcamp - Let Me Repeat (Using Repetition in Design) in all of my cards from this post.  I find it pretty easy to incorporate the design principles from this lesson with Christmas themed cards since the color palette is somewhat fixed.  I did, however, try and pay attention to repeating shapes especially with the two mouse cards.  I haven't used chevrons very much, and I was pleased to see how they mimicked the edges of the mouse's top and hat.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge - Cards 4 Kids

Operation Write Home's Midweek Throwdown Challenge is Cards 4 Kids.  We are challenged to make cards for our Heroes to send home to their children.  I discovered I had this pre-colored image in my PcCrafter collection that perfectly matched some paper from Cosmo Cricket.  I was lucky enough to get it on clearance at my local scrapbook supply store, so I bought 4 sheets.  I made six cards out of one 12x12 sheet, and I'll be making variations of this card 3 more times in the future.
  • Pre-colored image from Sapna's collection Planes, Trains, & Autos from pcCrafter, cut out and popped up with foam tape
  • Cosmo Cricket Cogsmo Links paper
  • Fiskar cloud punch
  • Ranger Stormy Sky distress ink
  • Impression Obsession sentiment stamp
  • My Favorite Things fishtail banner die

One More Art Impressions Card

  • Geese and sentiment stamps from Art Impressions (the sentiment is from the new Sending Love set)
  • Copics W0/W3/W5/E43
  • Basic Grey Max & Whiskers papers
  • EK Success border punch
  • Ranger Black Soot distress ink

Art Impressions and Operation Write Home Blog Hop

Hello!  I'm Lee Mae, and my blog is the next stop in the Art Impressions & Operation Write Home Blog Hop.  Kathryn's blog was before mine, or if you'd like to return to the start of the hop, click on the banner above.  Art Impressions has generously made not one, but TWO stamp sets to benefit OWH.  The sets are a lot of fun to make cards with, and for a beginning Copics user like me, very easy to color!  To purchase these sets, click on the banner below and it will take you to where they are for sale in the Art Impressions store.

OK!  Onto the cards!  My first card uses the set Every Hat.
Isn't she just terrific?  The spouses of our Heroes have to tackle every job during deployments, and I know a card showing appreciation for their efforts will be a big hit.  I colored her with my Copics (using 22, yes 22! colors) and I had a really good time!  The paper is from Pebbles Love You More - Blake, and the Art Impression sentiment that comes with this set is stamped on a My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner die.

My second card uses the set Sending Love.
I wanted this card to have more dimension, so there are multiple layers.  I stamped and colored the telephone cans twice, cut out one set and then popped them up with dimensional foam (aka Sandy's "Precious!").  The paper is Basic Grey's Shine On, and the sentiment that comes with this set was stamped and then cut with Spellbinders circle dies.  There are some foam squares on the lower portion of the circle to give it some added lift.

Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope you enjoyed my cards; I welcome and appreciate comments!

The next stop is Kerry's blog, Kerry is Chilling.  Enjoy the rest of the hop!

  • Wordsworth sentiment stamp
  • K&Company dp
If I use this layout again, I will definitely move the image to the other side so it fits under the sentiment better.

June Anything Goes Challenge at Bugaboo

I made this card for the June Anything Goes Challenge at Bugaboo's Catch the Bug Challenge Blog.  I had this bit of word art from Create with TLC and when I saw the digi of Jack & Diane, I knew I had a great match.  I ended up making 8 of these for my next box for Operation Write Home.
  • Digi from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics
  • Sentiment from Create with TLC
  • Operation Write Home Sketch 15
  • Echo Park paper Little Boy - Rad Plaid
