Emma in Torn Jeans

  • Digi from Pink Gem Designs - Emma in Torn Jeans - colored with Copics
  • OWH sketch 126 (modified slightly)
  • Papertrey Ink sentiment stamp
  • My Favorite Things sentiment tab and banner dies
  • Polka dot paper from Recollections
I love this character's hair!  She was a lot of fun to color, plus I was totally inspired by the polka dot paper I found at Micheal's.  I just love the color and so I made Emma's shirt to coordinate.  I made six of these.  Since I'm not an expert with Copics, it is good practice for me, and luckily all six came out nicely so I was able to make six of these for my OWH box.

Favorite Sentiment

The sentiment for these cards comes from I Brake for Stamps and I try and make some cards for every OWH box.  I thought I'd try some "gender neutral" color schemes and paper designs.  I don't really care for the way card three turned out using masculine papers.  The layout just looks too busy for a masculine card.  I love the sketch, however, so I think I will "girly" it up using the same sentiment.

Inspired by Paula

Paula made the cutest card (here) for a sketch challenge at Paper Smooches (here).  I didn't have an original idea for the sketch, but I did have a cute digi from Bugaboo Stamps that looked just like the sketch idea, so I made some cards for OWH!

OWH Sketch Challenge 181

This week's sketch has a lot of great possibilities to use various images and elements.  I chose to leave the center portion empty because I felt my card had a lot going on and it became too busy with something there.

  • Bugaboo digital image MS Dog Blocks colored with Copics
  • Fancy Pants Wavesearcher - Summertime paper
  • Sentiment computer generated with font CK Typeset

Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown Challenge - Masculine Cards

I was going to make a "grown-up" card for this week's Masculine Cards Midweek Throwdown Challenge at Operation Write Home.  However, I couldn't resist doing another Dudley card once I downloaded the cute sentiment from Create with TLC.  I think this card will be great for a Hero to send home to a brother or one of their kids.  It could even go home to a husband!
  • Digi from Dustin Pike's Doodle Dragon Studios colored with Copics
  • Digital sentiment from Create with TLC
  • Basic Grey Lime Rickey stripe paper
  • OWH sketch 150
  • EK Success border punch
  • Crop A Dile Corner Chopper
  • Spellbinders Ovals dies

July Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge - Stitching

The July Challenge from Our Daily Bread Designs over at the Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps blog is to use stitching on our cards.  It can be real or faux stitching.  Our Daily Bread Designs is continuing their wonderful support for OWH by sponsoring these challenges.  The shipping costs for one large flat rate box is donated for every 25 cards we enter into their challenge.  If we have 50 cards entered, the shipping costs for two large flat rate boxes gets donated to us.  Thank you Our Daily Bread Designs!

For this month's challenge, I made a thank you card using faux stitching.  I also did some actual stitching to finish the twine bow's center since I didn't want a big knot there.  I used some Sew Easy thread and a heavy-duty needle to place a stitch through the center of the two pieces of twine, then came back up and over to make the center.  To soften everything up a bit, I pounded the center a bit with my eyelet hammer.  (I also soften the twine before I use it by running a bone folder down the length of it.  It flattens it out plus makes it soft so there is less bulk.

Supplies used:
  • Sizzix star die
  • Button die (MFT or Memory Box)
  • My Minds Eye Summer Splash paper
  • My Favorite Things Notched border die
  • Papertrey Ink sentiment stamp
  • Sew Easy Fancy Floss - Baker's Twine
  • White gel pen

OWH Sketch Challenge 180

Clean and Simple version in honor of the fabulous drawing that inspired this week's Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge 180.
Rubber Stampede Solidago Sprig colored with Momentos markers and stamped on watercolor paper.  Flourishes sentiment stamp using Momentos Tuxedo Black dye ink.

Same stamps and use of watercolor paper for the image, but made with more layers.
Rubber Stampede Solidago Sprig colored with Momentos markers and stamped on watercolor paper.  Flourishes sentiment stamp using Momentos Tuxedo Black dye ink, Basic Grey paper Marjolaine-profiteroles

And since I was at it, I tried a monochromatic scheme too.
Rubber Stampede Solidago Sprig stamped with Momentos Potter's Clay dye ink on watercolor paper.  Flourishes sentiment stamp (also stamped with Momentos Potter's Clay dye ink), and ancient Provo Craft mat stack paper from my stash.

Another excellent sketch from a great source of inspiration!

Digital Two for Tuesday and Graphic 45

  • Lady image from Digital Two for Tuesday colored with Copics
  • Graphic 45 paper
  • Sentiment stamp from Hero Arts
  • OWH sketch 145
I'm in love with this card and thankfully, since I have this blog, I can visit it anytime I want!  I actually made six of these for OWH.  I would have made eight, but I cut the paper the wrong size TWICE!  I'll use those two on another card.  The best part about making this card was being able to use this fabulous old fashioned lady from Digital Two for Tuesday.

Many Thanks

  • Cattails stamp from Northwoods Rubber Stamps
  • OWH sketch 161
  • Sentiment stamp from my stash
  • Basic Grey paper - Periphery (stripe and oval)
I like the shape of the sentiment stamp, but the exclamation point just doesn't look right to me with this image.  Since this is a 12x12 six-card multiple, I'm going to change the sentiment out to a different thank you stamp for the other five cards.

Any Hero Card from Create with TLC

  • Card front digi from Create with TLC colored with Copics and white Prismacolor pencil
Since the white pencil wanted to rub off, I used some Aqua Net hairspray as a fixative.  I'm trying to include more Any Hero cards with my boxes, but frankly, I always feel like I'm babbling incoherently while I'm writing, so hopefully that will ease as I do more cards!

Thank You from Freshly Made Sketches
