OWH Sketch Challenge 166

Loving the sketch from this week's OWH Sketch Challenge 166.  I already have two other cars printed out and matched to their papers.  Since I make six of each most of the time (I usually use 12x12 two-sided papers), I may have to hold a set back from my April's Father's Day box and send one set of six with my box for May.

  • Pre-colored digi from Clear Dollar Stamps Corvette collection
  • OWH sketch 166
  • Sentiment stamp from Sweet 'n Sassy Timeless Classic
  • Gears die from Taylored Expressions

OWH Mid-Week Throwdown Challenge - Stripes

The Midweek Throwdown Challenge at Operation Write Home this week is a challenge to use stripes on our cards. I used a corner piece from one of the papers from my six inch pad to make a tag for my card.  I was able to make two of these and I will make two more with a different sketch to use the opposite corner which had some neat stars.

  • Deconstructed Sketch 93
  • 6x6 paper pad Awesome from Simple Stories

OWH Sketch 164

I missed making a card in time for last week's sketch challenge 164 at Operation Write Home.  This card came to mind as soon as I saw the sketch, but I could not think of a patterned paper to use.  I also have never made a card with the cutaway on the crosspieces like I did here, so I felt stalled out.  I finally knew I had a workable idea to try today when I spotted this 12x12 sheet of Basic Grey paper that I had pulled out to use for a Father's Day/Dad card or some type of masculine looking card.  Since I knew I wanted to use a brownish/grayish marbled paper to stamp the sentiment on, this BG paper looked like a good match.

  • OWH sketch 164
  • Stampin' Up! stamp
  • Basic Grey paper - Oxford Midterm
  • Spellbinders dies
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Distressed Stripes

OWH Sketch Challenge 165

I decided to use a die cut in place of the ribbon in this week's OWH Sketch Challenge 165.  I added a couple of punched butterflies because the area looked a little bare and I used only two of them since the leaf kind of acts as that "third" element.

  • OWH sketch 165
  • Sentiment stamp from Papertrey Ink
  • Simon Says Fresh Daisies die
  • Martha Stewart border and butterfly punches
  • Recollections dot paper
  • Viva Pearl Pen

OWH Bootcamp - Anyway You Slice It - Composition, the Rule of Thirds

My card for today's OWH Bootcamp Lesson - Anyway You Slice It-Composition, the Rule of Thirds.  I really learned a lot about why certain compositions look more pleasing since our eye wants to travel in certain ways.  I was also glad to see some suggested sketches to carry out our homework since I am at a dead run trying to get to the post office and get my OWH Mother's Day box in the mail!

I was especially glad to see OWH sketch 19 listed as a good "rule of thirds" sketch because I was planning on using it today for a Dad card and a stamped image.  I have had this great deer stamp for over a year and I am finally getting some ink on it!

  • OWH sketch 19
  • TPC Studios image stamp
  • Copics E81/E55/E44/Y19/E31

OWH Sketch Challenge 163 and My Favorite Things Stamp Set

My card for this week's Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge 163.  Love this sketch because I have a bunch of small stamps and even some small dies that will work really well with this layout.

Since my 1/2 box of Mother's Day/Mom cards is almost full and ready to ship to Sandy, I know I must start working on Father's Day/Dad cards for the April 30th deadline for those.  I usually ship a box of cards a month, so I try and start on those deadlines more than 30 days ahead so I can get my cards to Sandy at least two weeks prior to any deadlines.

  • Hat and sentiment stamps from My Favorite Things Let's Hear it for the Boys! stamp set
  • Copics B95/E44
  • Spellbinders dies
  • Paper from my stash - unidentified

I love all three of the new sets, but I had so much fun with the turtle set that I made three different cards and then couldn't decide which card to post, so I'm posting all three cards!

My first card is very clean and simple.

This next card is pretty similar to the first, but I just had to share it anyway!
Recollections dot papers, Sizzix alphabet die, Copics E31/E57/E59/Y21/YG61/YG63

My third card was a lot of fun to make.  When I saw this little turtle's toes I wanted to paint them pink!

Our Daily Bread Designs March Challenge - Scallops

The Our Daily Bread Designs March Challenge for OWH is to use scallops on our cards.  ODBD is continuing their wonderful support for OWH in covering the shipping costs of a large flat shipping box for every 25 cards we make for the challenge - up to two boxes each month.   They are very generous to us and their support is very much appreciated.  This month I decided to play around with some different color schemes to go with the same two elements:  the butterfly and the floral paper for the squares.  I made four variations for my next OWH box, which I hope to ship out early next week.

  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp
  • K&Company pattern papers and butterfly die cut
