Messing Around

I just purchased the cattail embossing folder from Sizzix/Tim Holtz and, on a whim, embossed some cardstock and then colored the raised portion with my Copics.  I added the sentiment which is a die cut made from a Cuttlebug die and embossing folder set called Love Language.  To add a bit of bling, I made a dragonfly from a Memory Box die using some shiny green cardstock for the wings.

K&Company Papers and Die Cuts

K&Company makes such beautiful papers and die cuts.  I have a lot of their paper and when I saw these die cuts on clearance last year, I purchased two sets of them knowing they would make some great Mother's Day/Mom cards.  I used Splitcoast  Stamper's sketch 389 for my layout.  Stamps are from Fiskars and the die is from Sizzix - Branch and Leaves.  I was able to make five bird cards and just the one floral since I only had one die cut of that.  Since there was already glitter (embedded) I covered it with Glossy Accents just to be on the safe side.

OWH Design Bootcamp - Get to the Point

My card for Operation Write Home's Design Bootcamp Class - Get to the Point.  Homework for the class is to create a strong focal point.  Nothing like a bold color against black and white to draw the eye where I want it to go!  Thanks for Paula for her excellent lesson in good card design.  One of the points she brought up about creating a tight grouping of elements was a lesson I was long in learning.  I also remember, when I first started making cards, my horror when I realized I was going to have to add layers behind my images if I wanted them to stand out!  Thank heavens for ATG tape and Spellbinders!

  • Floral digi from Create with TLC
  • Sentiment computer generated with Freebooter font
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Borders Organic Flourish
  • Recollection dot paper
  • Hero Arts/Sizzix stamp and die combo Butterflies 3

OWH VCMP Challenge Number 7

My card for Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Party Challenge #7 hosted by Jen at The Sparkle Within - Caffeine Challenge.

Before the virtual card making party, I had noticed my card in OWH's Facebook photos and felt like making some more of them.  Then our VCMP came along and there was a caffeine challenge.  I felt like I was cheating a bit by just doing an old card, but unfortunately I just couldn't get this card out my mind and come up with a new idea.  So here it is - a blast from my past from 2011.

  • Based on Splitcoast Stampers sketch 29
  • Pre-colored image from Micheal Stoebner's collection Java Junkie from Daisy Co.
  • Fiskar's sentiment stamp
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Divine Swirls - the paper is already mottled and didn't require any distressing ink!

OWH VCMP Challenge Number 10

My card for Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Party Challenge #10 hosted by Kaylee at 104 Cards for Soldiers - Glitz and Glam Without Glitter.

I love old cars and consider them glamorous, so I decided to use a vintage image and pair it with some foiled paper for the glitz.

Here is a another view to show the shine of the foil paper.  I almost always include some type of foil or shiny elements in my guy cards.

  • OWH sketch number 49
  • Car image from Create with TLC
  • Foiled paper from Deja Views - Lucky Argyle
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamps

All of the details are the same except for my using Basic Grey papers (Wander collection) and coloring the VW bus with Copics BG01.

I'm loving all of the challenges, but I definitely need to take a break and go outside and enjoy a bit more of the day.  I'll be back later today and tomorrow with more cards.  I've already checked the other challenges, and I have some ideas cooking, but I don't know if I'll burn them or get them done OK!
