Missing You Dragon

Love these Bo Bunny papers so I paused in my Valentine's Day card marathon and made some of these. Digi from Doodle Dragon Studios colored with Copics, digi sentiment from Create with TLC.

Some Valentines

The deadline for Valentine's Day cards for Operation Write Home is December 31st.  It's always better to get our cards in earlier than that, so I've been trying to get my box filled and out the door by tomorrow. I haven't been posting since I've been trying to get a bunch done.  Thought I'd share what I've made. Since I do multiples, in most cases each card was made 6 times (love those 12x12 cardstock sheets!).

Digi image from Tiddly Inks - the lips are covered with Glossy Accents and the bow was cut out and added on top for dimension.  The digi sentiment is from Create with TLC, cut out with Spellbinders circle dies.  Cow patterned paper from Canvas Corp.  OWH sketch 36.
Digi image from Doodle Dragon Studios colored with Copics.  Digi sentiment from Elegant Word Art. Sizzix Hearts embossing folder, Splitcoast Stamper sketch 7.

Digi image from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics.  Verve sentiment stamp.  Splitcoast Stampers sketch 395.  First card's papers are from Imaginisce (hearts) and Basic Grey (distressed black).  The second card has papers from American Crafts.

Digi image from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics.  Verve sentiment stamped on My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner dies.  Basic Grey paper, Fiskars border punch, and OWH sketch 167.

I just might squeeze in a few more cards because I haven't used some MFT stamps yet and I just saw a great sketch over at CASE this Sketch for some masculine Valentines.

Valentines with Silver

Three versions of some cards I made using a bonus OWH sketch.  The digi is from Tiddly Inks called Silver Valentine and colored with Copics.  The sentiment stamp is from Verve.  The first two cards have papers from American Crafts and the last card's dp is from my stash - a piece of cardstock from a make your own calendar set from Debbie Mumm.

  • OWH sketch 202
  • Lawn Fawn border stamp colored with Copics
  • Hero Arts Lil Hoots bears and sentiment
Well, it's back to watching football.  Have a great Sunday!

A Card for Two Challenges

Today's Midweek Throwdown at Operation Write Home's Stars & Stamps Blog is Valentines Cards. Also today, Tiddly Inks is having a great sale, so I was going through my digis to make sure I didn't purchase a duplicate, and decided to make a Valentine card with this cute image already in my files. Wednesday is also the day for a new sketch challenge at Splitcoast Stampers, so I decided to use their new sketch 465 for my card.  I already knew what papers I was going to use since I had a 6x6 pad from American Crafts (XOXO) just waiting to be used.  The hardest part was coloring with my Copics since I'm still relatively new to them.  Coloring the hair was quite an experience!  I hope I've done her justice.  I used MFT Fishtail Banner dies and a sentiment stamp from PaperTrey Ink to finish off my card.

Well, that's it for me today.  One of my dogs is crying for her supper, so I better get her fed!

Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge 464

I use a lot of sketches from Splitcoast Stampers, though  I rarely get any cards done in time before the next sketch challenge comes out.  In fact, tomorrow there will be a new sketch, so I just squeaked getting a card done.  Since Valentine's cards are due to Sandy by December 31st, I'm busy making as many love/Valentine's cards as I can get done before the deadline.  I hope to get my box in the mail no later that the 17th.

  • Splitcoast Stampers Sketch 464
  • Digi from Digi Darla colored with Copics
  • Sentiment stamp from Micheal's
  • Cuttlebug Hearts embossing folder
  • Herringbone paper from Recollections
  • Spellbinders circle dies
  • Viva Pearl Pen (just a little black dot for the dog's nose!)

Thank You Card

I made some thank you cards using Basic Grey papers and a stamp from my stash.  Always good to get some done for my OWH boxes.

OWH Sketch Challenge 201

I made a Valentine's Day card for this week's Sketch Challenge 201 at Operation Write Home.  Since I've been on a Doodle Dragon Studios binge, I knew right away what image I wanted to use for this week's sketch.  (This card looks a lot better in person because the background paper is truly white instead of the weird gray color the photo shows.)

Supplies:  Digi from Doodle Dragon Studios colored with Copics, Recollections heart paper, Verve sentiment stamp, EK Success border punch

Doodle Dragon Studios Valentine's Cards

Quick post of  two Valentine's cards for OWH using characters from Doodle Dragon Studios.

I made this card last year, and I decided to try to color the image with Copics this year.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a brown to work for this little guy's face and stomach.  I did finally succeed, but not until I'd given up and used the pre-colored image!

Supplies:  OWH sketch 37, Verve sentiment stamp, Cuttlebug Hearts embossing folder, hearts paper from Recollections.

I also made this card last year, however, this year I colored the image with Copics instead of using the pre-colored version from Doodle Dragon Studios.  I also found my "bee mine" sentiment this year, so I could make a pun!

Supplies:  OWH sketch 41, Basic Grey papers, sentiment stamp is unknown.

Lil Hoot

Thought I'd try another card using Lil Hoot from Hero Arts.  A quick, fun card to make!

Supplies:  Darice striped paper, Poppy Stamps fence die, MFT Fishtail banner die.

OWH Sketch Challenge 200

Another card for Operation Write Home's Sketch Challenge 200.  I used a cattails stamp from Stacy's Stamps and a goose stamp from Stampin' Up's Wetlands set with some added color from my Copics. The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts and papers are from My Mind's Eye Spice.

The sun is out today, so it looks like I can walk my two big dogs!  Hope your Sunday is going great!

Operation Write Home Sketch 200

I made this card for Operation Write Home's Sketch 200 using the new Hero Arts set Little Hoot. What a fun set!  I'm not so great with Copics, but the images from these new stamps are really easy to color and are very quick at the same time.  To give my card a boyish feel, I used some papers from an Echo Park 6x6 pad called Scoot.  I punched the grass with a Fiskars grass border punch using some green paper from the same pad.  The heart was made with a Spellbinders die and popped with some foam squares.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoyed my card!

A Couple of Cards from Hero Arts Missing You Set

I should be making Valentines for Operation Write Home right now, but I just got my new Hero Arts OWH Fundraiser stamps from Simon Says, and just couldn't resist making some cards!  The stamps used on these two cards are from the set Missing You.  My first card uses paper from We R Memory Keepers Happy Campers line with some coordinating cardstock embossed with  Cuttlebug's  Distressed Stripes embossing folder.
This little bird just cracked me up, and I used the same general layout as my first card, except I mounted the image panel on the lower third.  My duplicates will have the panel a bit lower, I think, to really get it in the bottom third better (Rule of Thirds!  Yay Bootcamp lessons!).  The dotted paper is from Moxie Very Merry Unbirthday and the stripe is from Darice.  The circle is cut from Spellbinders circle dies. I stamped the bird on the white circle and then on another piece of cardstock and cut him out and glued him over top so he'd have a bit more dimension.  The eyes have Glossy Accents (not in the photo though, that came after!).

I love the new sets - easy to color and really fun to work with!

OWH November Design Bootcamp - How Does it Feel

November's OWH Design Bootcamp, How Does it Feel (Using Texture to Add Interest) is one I really enjoyed.  I made a similar card like this last year, and decided to make some this year as well after seeing this month's Bootcamp lesson.  To add texture to my card, I embossed a panel with a hearts embossing folder.  The penguin is popped up so that it can be felt, and the ends of the sentiment panel are cut to add just a bit more "feel."  I think these details make a card fun to look at as well as to touch.
  • Penguin from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics.  The upper half is popped up with foam tape.
  • Sentiment stamp from Hero Arts
  • My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner dies
  • Sizzix embossing folder Hearts
  • Snowflake paper off the rack at JoAnn's (I cut off the manufacturer's info!)
I really enjoy our Bootcamp lessons, and what I've learned has really increased my confidence as a cardmaker!  Thanks, Paula, for making learning so much fun!

Missing You Times Two

I made some missing you cards for my last box of cards for Operation Write Home.  They both use the same set of papers from Basic Grey's Curio line.  The above card uses OWH sketch 191.  The sentiment is computer generated and I used MFT Fishtail Banner dies and a Spellbinders heart die.  I adhered the dp to some chipboard before cutting it out with the die to give it more heft.

The second card uses another OWH sketch, a big favorite of mine, OWH sketch 176 and a sentiment stamp from Embossing Arts.

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Dry Embossing

This is another card I am basing the layout on from a card I saw on the Web.  I've altered it a bit, but it remains very similar to the one I saw while cruising around with my Tablet.  I didn't save the link, however, and because of that, I've made myself a bookmark folder for CASE cards so I can go back to them!  I made this card on Sunday, but it definitely was lacking in something and after seeing this week's OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge to use dry embossing, I knew exactly what was needed. Once I dry embossed the background panel, everything came together.
  • Cuttlebug Love Language die plate
  • Spellbinders heart dies
  • Echo Park Grandfather's Tool Shed plaid paper
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Distressed Stripe
Thanks for visiting my blog today!

Some Sunny Yellow for Winter

I saw this layout on Pinterest and decided to adapt it a bit for this card.  That card was also yellow and I just couldn't resist going with the same scheme.  I just bought this Hero Arts stamp set, so I was really excited to make this card!
  • Hero Arts Daisies stamp
  • My Favorite Things sentiment stamp
  • My Favorite Thins Delicate Lace Doily border die
  • Recollections dot paper
  • My Favorite Things Fishtail Banner dies
  • Stickles covered in Glossy Accents for flower centers
  • Copics

Some Thank You Cards

  • Penny Black Every Happiness image stamp
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp

OWH Sketch Challenge 197

This week's Challenge Sketch 197 is such a great sketch for me since it features an added layer in a coordinating color. I rarely think of this, and I find it a wonderful way to bring an added dimension to my cards without much effort at all.  For my card, I used another image from Bugaboo Stamps colored with Copics and some papers from Basic Grey (Olivia) as well as a favorite border die from My Favorite Things, Delicate Lace Doily.  Sentiment stamp is from Stampabilities.

Thanks for visiting my blog.  We have some sun here, today, and I hope your day is full of some sunshine as well.

November Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge - Valentines and Love Cards

The November Challenge from Our Daily Bread Designs is to make Valentines and Love Cards. Thanks to the generosity of Our Daily Bread Designs, Operation Write Home can be sponsored the postage for up to two large flat rate shipping boxes - one box for every 25 cards we post.  We need 50 cards posted to receive a full sponsorship.  For this month's challenge,  I decided to make a love card that looks like a Valentines card.
  • Mojo 316 sketch
  • Sentiment digi from Create with TLC
  • Bugaboo Stamps dog digi
  • Copics E35/E37/R20/W3/W5/R46/W0/W3
  • Verve banner die
  • Spellbinders circle dies
  • Papers from Fancy Pants and Recollections
UPDATED November 4, 2013
I only had enough of the envelope paper to make three cards, so I decided to make a more masculine looking card too.  Papers are from Basic Grey (Oliver and Basics Lexicon).  The other five of these will have black twill ribbon with two rows of white stitching instead of plain black.

OWH Sketch Challenge 196

I'm finally getting around to posting my card for this week's Sketch Challenge 196 at Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps.  I made a missing you card since Sandy has requested this theme be included in our shipments.  I have quite a few missing you stamps, but very few are "stacked."  I was really pleased to find a set of sentiment stamps from Stampabilites which were separate words - they have "missing" and "miss" which was really great!  Since they are clear, they are very easy to line up and stamp.
  • OWH Sketch 196
  • Bugaboo digi - My Little Sock Monkey
  • Copics E41/E43/E44/E57/R20/R29/R24/YG25/W0/W3/R46
  • Stampabilities sentiment stamps Everyday Expressions
I really like this sketch, and while typing this up, I just thought of another idea for it, so I'm off to give it a go.  Thanks for visiting my blog!

Monochromatic Miss You

  • Splitcoast Stampers sketch 432
  • Unity Stamps Feel the Joy stamped in Versafine Olympia Green
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp also stamped in Versafine Olympia Green

Another Miss You Card

Sharing a card using one of my all time favorite images from Shelly Comiskey.  It's a pre-colored digi from her collection Gone to the Dogs from Daisy Company, and no longer available for sale.  It may be available from Whipper Snapper as a stamp though.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge - Color Challenge Pink and Green

The Midweek Throwdown Challenge at Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps is a color challenge. We are challenged to make a love/Valentine card using the colors pink and green.  I just received some new stamps, so I decided to try out one of them.  The background stamp is also from Penny Black and it's stamped with Momento Pear Tart ink onto some Astroparche green cardstock.  My camera picked up a stronger image of the background than what it appears in real life - it's not that bright nor as dominant as it appears in this photo.

  • Penny Black Delicate Florals and Letter background stamps
  • Stampabilities sentiment stamp
  • Wausau green Astroparche cardstock
  • Bazzil Vinatage Pink cardstock
  • Recollections green cardstock
  • Copics
  • Memento Pear Tart and Tuxedo Black dye inks

OWH Bootcamp - All Things Being Equal and a CASE

This month's OWH Design Bootcamp All Things Being Equal is a fabulous lesson on balance in design.  I chose to make a card that is asymmetrical.  It is strongly weighted to the bottom and the right side of the card.  Even the stripes draw the eye down and the tips of the hearts point to the sentiment below.

My card is a CASE from a blogger named Angela and her blog is called From the Tool Shed.  The card I CASED is here.  I love to visit her blog whenever my MOJO is low.  I love her style and her cards always help me get ideas.  This time, almost a straight copy!
  • Card design from Angela @ From the Tool Shed
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp
  • EK Success border punch
  • Papers from Darice (JoAnn's); dot paper for small heart is from DCWV
  • Momento Rich Cocoa dye ink
  • Spellbinders hearts dies
Two more cards using other papers from the same paper pack from JoAnn's.  The first card has a bit of Basic Grey paper for the small heart.

I really learned a lot from this month's Bootcamp.  I've missed a couple of past month's lessons and I need to re-read them and try out the lessons.  The great thing about OWH Bootcamp is that it's always open and we can go anytime!

Floral Love

This card came about because I have been going through some of the paper stacks I've acquired and debating with myself about keeping them.  I purchased the DCWV stack based on some of the papers it had and the floral paper for this card is one of them.  I've decided to simply donate any of the papers I am not attracted to and make an effort to use up at least one (or two) of the sheets from the stack every week and see how it goes.
  • Splitcoast Stampers sketch 395
  • Spellbinders dies
  • DCWV paper and white core cardstock
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder
  • Stampin' Up! Flower Shop and Pansy punch; Secret Garden Sizzix Framelit die for leaves
  • Fiskars sentiment stamp
  • Brushed Corduroy distress stain
While making my first card, I started thinking about all of the flowers I never use.  More stuff!  Either I use it or I need to donate it.  So this card came about and it's doubly gratifying because I have actually bought MORE paper, and a paper pad at that.  Micheal's had 12x12 paper pads from Crate Paper for $5 each. I was really taken with this floral print knowing that, while it was large, it would still suite a card.  I played around with a bunch of sketches and wasn't pleased with how they looked, so I finally decided to just do a two-thirds/one-third split and I liked how it looked.
  • Papers from Crate Paper Farmhouse
  • Recollections flower
  • Candi dot for flower center (I still attached the flower with a brad and I glued down all the petals since the flower is made with paper.)
  • Spellbinders Labels large die for the sentiment
  • Hampton Art sentiment stamp
Some other good things that came about were I had twelve flowers and with two sheets of the floral print I was able to make twelve of these for my next OWH box.  The other thing was the cardstock I used for the background frame was accumulating as well and it just made the card "pop."

Our Daily Bread Designs October OWH Challenge

The October Challenge from Our Daily Bread Designs is to make a card that has a sentiment as the focal point.  I used a sketch idea from My Favorite Things, however, I can't find the sketch number for it.
  • Papers from Basic Grey - check and My Minds Eye - floral
  • MFT Fishtail Banner dies and sentiment stamp
  • Spellbinders and Martha Stewart punch for the hearts
  • Versafine Crimson Red ink
I went with a love/Valentine type card since I've sent in the last of my Christmas cards for the year. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Masculine Missing You

I've become a Stampin' Up! Fanatic.  I think I just bought about half the catalog last week.  This is what comes from following Stampin' Up on Pinterest and checking the galleries at Splitcoast Stampers.  My Stampin' Up! rep had a fabulous deal for her customers, and once I took full advantage of her discount offers, I now have a bunch of fabulous stamps to play with.  I love how easy they are to color since a lot of shading is already done with the stamp itself.  For this card, I made the quail a California quail since they have a decided blue cast to their feathers.  He's not colored exactly the way he should be, but since the image was so small, three colors (blue, gray, and brown) just didn't work, so I stuck with blue/gray, B95, and brown, E44, Copics and blended them with a light gray,W3.  The blue houndstooth paper is from October Afternoon's  9 to 5 paper pad and the yellow is from MME's Blue Floral paper pad; sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts; sketch is Freshly Made Sketches #103.

I love how this turned out and I have some other MME blue papers already picked out for more cards for a future OWH box.

OWH Sketch 192 - Better Late than Never!

I'm too late for Operation Write Home's Sketch Challenge 192, but I love this sketch and since I've used Leere Aldrich's skiing sheep before, it was great to have a new sketch for this year's version.  The image is pre-colored from Leere Aldrich's collection At the Cabin from PcCrafter.  Since PcCrafter is no more, Leere's artwork is only available through Whipper Snapper stamps.

OWH sketch 192, DCWV papers, Spellbinders oval dies, Computer generated sentiment using font PCLeere.

Snowmen Hugs

Thought I'd make some snowmen love cards for OWH.  Both cards use pre-colored images from Laurie Furnell's collections Cold Hands Warm Heart 1 & 2 from PcCrafter.  Some of Laurie's artwork are now stamps at High Hopes Rubber Stamps and some pre-colored artwork is available at Aimee Asher.

OWH sketch #30, Basic Grey papers, Hero Arts sentiment stamp, Spellbinders Labels 1 & 2, Sizzix Hearts embossing folder

OWH sketch #36, DCWV Stack 7 papers, Stampendous sentiment stamp

As is my usual, I made six each of these to kick off my next OWH box - estimated launch date is November 10th, and it will also have some early Valentine's Day cards as well!

New Stamp

I've always thought that this little skater boy from Stampendous was really cute, so the other day I broke down and used my Micheals 40% off coupon on this stamp instead of on Tombow adhesive (I use ATG, but sometimes I need a small adhesive runner).  I used OWH sketch #2 and both sides of the double-sided paper from Doodlebug Design's 6x6 pad boys only.  This worked out really nicely since I virtually used the whole 6x6 page.  I added some gears which were made with dies from Taylored Expressions and colored with my Copics as was the image.

Well, that's it for posting for today.  Time to go out and enjoy the bit of sunshine we are having!
