Bugaboo Stamps Sponsors OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge - Use a Digital Image!

Bugaboo Stamps is sponsoring Operation Write Home's Midweek Throwdown Challenge which is to use a digital image.  I am using an image from Bugaboo because I generously helped myself to a bunch of their images and I thought Scruffy Puppy would make a really cute Mother's Day card!  Visit their site - they offer a discount when buying multiple images.  Not to mention, their images are so darn cute!

  • Sentiment stamp from Verve Stamps

K&Company Mother's Day Card Marathon

K&Company makes such beautiful papers and die cuts to go with them.  I bought two packages of die cuts that coordinate with their Susan Winget Meadows paper pads.  I intend to make a series of Mother's Day cards with them.  There are enough duplicate dies to make 4 cards, so I shouldn't have too many cards that look the same overall.

  • K&Company Susan Winget Meadow die cut and paper
  • Split Coast Stamper sketch 313
  • Spellbinders dies
  • Sentiments computer generated (Fonts = Angsano New and Scriptina)
  • Glittered areas are covered in Glossy Accents

The Tale of Two Puppies

Even though I really need to focus on my Mother's Day card half of my box that I will shipping out to Sandy in the next week or so, I couldn't resist making this card using a new digi.   I just purchased some digital images from Dragonsmoore - Spyders Other Corner. The artist, Lyn, and I had some e-mail exchanges and during the course of those e-mails, I asked if I could change the birthday greeting to "missing you" or "love you."  She kindly made me another image of this cute little puppy so his signs says missing you.   How cool is that!  I enjoyed coloring this little guy with my Copics so much I decided to keep making more, but changed up the papers.
Isn't he just the cutest little guy?

  • Digi from Dragonsmoore - Spyders Other Corner
  • OWH Sketch 71
  • Spellbinder dies

Mother's Day Card - Stamp and Copics

I have been drooling over this stamp for ages whenever I go into JoAnn's.  After seeing Pam's post (Airborne Wife's Stamping Spot) using a similar stamp, I decided to take the plunge and get the stamp.  I just love how my card turned out.  Thanks, Pam, for inspiring me!

  • Sentiment stamp from Micheal's
  • Distress Stains Vintage Photo and Spun Sugar
  • Copics R81, YB63, YG03, BV00

Missing You Panda

Create with TLC made this great looking sentiment and Dustin Pike has lots of images where the character is holding a sign.  I intend to made a card for every box I send to OWH using a Doodle Dragon image and this sentiment.  This is the second time round - I made one for my last box here.

Splitcoast Stamper Sketch 369

I really enjoy going to the Splitcoast Stampers website.  Their sketch challenges always have interesting layouts.  I was a bit intimidated by the diagonal piece, but after making some of the OWH sketches with angled cuts, I thought I'd give it a try.  I am glad I did.  I wish the photo could really do justice to how pretty this card turned out.  I need to find a light source that doesn't cast so much yellow light because it wrecks havoc on greens.  I made this card blank to serve as an emergency Mother's Day card for Sandy in case she needs extras.

  • Pre-colored image from Vintage Rio
  • Green cardstock is Core Essentials - Forest
  •  SC 369 sketch
  • Tim Holtz embossing folder Damask

OWH Sketch Challenge 109

Operation Write Home's Sketch Challenge 109

is being sponsored by the Doodle Pantry.  I love the Doodle Pantry's images and they have generously offered to give a prize of three free digis  to a random entrant to the challenge.  Thank you Doodle Pantry!  I decided to use one of their images even though we don't need to, and I decided to make a Father's Day card since I have wanted to make one with this cute quail ever since I got him ages ago.

  • Sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts
  • OWH Sketch 109

OWH's Our Daily Bread Challenge - Use Yummy Ribbon

Every month Our Daily Bread sponsors a challenge at Operation Write Home's blog, Stars & Stamps.  ODB will pay the shipping for up to two large flat rate boxes of cards for every 25 cards we post for their challenge.  This month we are to use Yummy Ribbon.  I am not very good with ribbon; I usually just use it as a decorative border between two different papers.  I am lousy at making bows - I can make them, but the center knot is always too thick.  I can, however,  make a decent knot and keep the center from getting too big.  So, in order to get in the spirit of the challenge, I purchased some 7/8" ribbon to use instead of my usual 1/4" size.  I really like the larger size and I will be using more in the future.

  • Image from The Graphics Fairy
  • Sketch is from Split Coast Stampers #10
  • Sentiment is computer generated (Font = Andantino script)
  • Blue Coredinations Foundations cardstock in Azure is scored every 1/8" using Martha Stewart's scoring board

OWH VCMP Challenge 13 - Embossing

Operation Write Home's Virtual Cardmaking Challenges ended with the challenge Embossing.  I love to emboss and I have a lot of embossing folders.  The only thing I didn't have at the end was stamina!  I really had to force myself to get this card done.  I think my brain is a bit worn out! I completed all of the challenges by the deadline except for the fancy fold card.  I have an idea of what card I want to make for it even though it will be too late to meet the challenge deadline.  It will, I hope, make an excellent Mother's Day card.

  • Image is a pre-colored digi from Gina Jane's Friendship Garden from Daisy Co.

  • Martha Stewart border punch
  • Spellbinders Double Ended Tags

OWH VCMP Challenge 11 Rainforest Color

Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Challenge #11 is Rainforest Color.  We are challenged to make a card that uses greens of the rainforest with just a pop of color.  I just couldn't resist using this image from Dustin Pike.  I am also using some DP that I absolutely love, love, love!  My LSS had it on sale - 12x12 sheets for $.05 each!  Yeah, baby!  I bought about 30 sheets plus some others that are orange and black, a deep yellow and black, and an awesome blue and black.  Sandy is going to be thoroughly sick of seeing this paper from me for the next countless years!  One last note, I colored this guy in Photoshop and cut out the claws and popped them on top.

  • Digi from Dustin Pike Doodle Dragon Studios
  • Paper from Scrapbook Diva - St. Patty's Day Leopard
  • Image colored in Photoshop
  • Glossy Accents on the eyes

OWH VCMP Challenge 10 - Vintage

Operation Write Home's Virtual Cardmaking Party Challenge #10 is Vintage.  We are to use a vintage image to make a card.  I was going to stick with the cruise, beach theme, but this little guy has been bugging me to make his card for awhile now, so I decided to create this card for the challenge.

  • Image from The Graphics Fairy (free vintage images, link on the right side of my blog)
  • Sentiment from Doodle Pantry

OWH VCMP Challenge 9 - Cut it Out!

Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party Challenge #9 is Cut it Out!
We are challenged to use our die cuts and punches to make some cards.  I decided to catch up on my sketch challenges while I was at it and used a sketch from two week ago.  The butterflies were cut out with a Martha Stewart punch and I edged them with one of my Copic markers to help them stand out a bit better.  I like the way the ink feathers onto their edges so they look inked.

  • OWH Sketch 106
  • DP from DCWV's Best of Brenda Walton
  • Martha Stewart border and butterfly punches
  • Spellbinders circle dies
  • Computer generated sentiment (Fonts: Beautiful ES & Angsana New)
  • Rhinestones from Darice & attached with Ranger Glossy Accents

OWH VCMP Challenge 7 - CAS

Operation Write Home Virtual Cardmaking Party Challenge #7 is to make a Clean and Simple (CAS) card.  I loved using the small floral paper from a mat pad from K & Company to make these butterflies.  I added some bling, which may not be strictly simple for a CAS card, but with the dreary weather today, I needed a little shine!

  • OWH Sketch 94
  • K & Company die cut mat pad Watercolor Boquet
  • Sizzix Butterflies #3 die
  • Computer generated sentiment (Font LaBelle Aurore)
  • Suzzix embossing folder Petal Flower

OWH VCMP Challenge 6 Sand and Sea - Use Blues and Tans

Operation Write Home Virtual Cardmaking Party Challenge 6 Sand & Sea:  Use Blues and Tans was a challenge I thought I had figured out immediately.  Three cards later, I finally came up with a card that I am happy with.  I wish I was as happy with my photo, though.  My card's colors coordinate much better than the photo shows.  OK, enough complaining, off to the next challenge!

  • Pre-colored image from Gina Jane's Dream, Believe, Imagine collection from Daisy Co.
  • Tim Holtz embossing folder
  • OWH Sketch 84
  • Papers and ribbon from my stash

OWH VCMP Challenge 8 Jungle Animals, Cards for Kids

I love to make cards for kids, and Dustin Pike has some great images that are whacky and whimsical.  I chose this tiger to make into a card for Operation Write Home's Virtual Cardmaking Party Challenge #8 - Jungle Animals, Cards for Kids.  The sentiment is from Create with TLC.

  • Pre-colored image from Dustin Pike's Doodle Dragon Pantry
  • Sentiment from Create with TLC

OWH VCMP Challenge 5 It's a Party! Birthday Cards

Operations Write Home Virtual Cardmaking Party continues with It's a Party! Birthday Day Cards.  I love Dustin Pike's artwork, so I colored up this awesome dino digi in Photoshop and combined it with some old, old DP and a sketch from Split Coast Stampers.  I think they look like they are having a great time!

  • Image from Dustin Pike's Doodle Dragon Studios
  • Split Coast Stampers Sketch 355

OWH VCMP Challenge 4 - Beachy Thinking About You

Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Party has been a blast.  I know what cards I want to make for the challenges, I just run out of time and I am a little behind.  This card is for Challenge #4 - Beachy Thinking About You.  I used an image from PcCrafter, so it was already colored.  I have wanted to make a card with this image for ages, so I was really given a great opportunity to make a card - no more excuses!

  • Image from Teresa Kogut's collection Life's a Trip from PcCrafter
  • Sentiment stamp from Hero Arts
  • Papers are from Cloud 9, red; Recollections, stripe

OWH Challenge - Masculine Nautical

Operation Write Home's VCMP Challenge #2 is Masculine Nautical.  I chose another Rina Kroes image from her scrapping kit Something Nautical.  I left off a sentiment since masculine cards aren't always as plentiful as the feminine cards, so maybe my card can fill whatever need there is.  I am taking a break right now to go walk my big dogs, Bear and Anna, and enjoy some sunshine!

  • Pre-colored image from Rina Kroes Something Nautical from Scrapbook Elements (Rina offers an Angel policy on some of her kits.)
  • OWH Sketch #2
  • Striped paper from Cloud 9 Designs
  • Brads from Micheal's Recollections

Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge 107

I am submitting this card for OWH's Sketch Challenge 107.   I used Rina Kroes Fantastical Future set at Scrapbook Elements to make all of the panels on my card.  The telescope is by her too and I cut another one out and popped it on top for some added dimension.  I love Rina's work, and if I could afford to put ink in my printer, I would turn to my stash of digital papers and elements 95% of the time.  The artwork available by talented designers like Rina Kroes is amazing.  She is a wonderful designer and her artwork for this set has an Angel policy for card and craft use besides scrapbooking.

  • Telescope and background papers from Rina Kroes Fantastical Future
  • Sentiment stamp from Hero Arts
  • OWH Sketch 107
  • Yatsutomo Gel Xtreme Metallic Roller pen on the stars in the sentiment

Agapanthus Mother's Day Card

I have to admit that when I started making cards for Operation Write Home a year and a half ago, it was to just use paper from my stash and the hundreds of clipart images I had from PcCrafter's Hug Club.  Well, I have gone beserk since then and have acquired dies and punches and stamps and MORE paper and MORE images and even Copics!  Luckily I have a wonderful husband who understands that I love my new hobby!

I saw this stamp from Stampendous and just had to get it.  I love Agapanthus flowers.  We can't grow them where we live now, but I had them for years when we used to live in California.  I miss them, but I do love the rhododendrons we have here in Washington.

  • Memento inks Bahama Blue, Danube Blue, Bamboo Leaves
  • Sentiment stamp from Studio g/Hampton Arts
  • Stripe paper Paper Pizzaz

Operation Write Home Clean and Simple Skip Challenge Card

Operation Write Home sponsored a Clean and Simple blog skip this weekend.  I wasn't on the computer very much this weekend because we are having some SUN and I was outside as much as I could.  I read the post on Sunday and once I saw on Facebook that we could still post a card, I made four of these cards using my new (Christmas!) Hero Arts stamp set.  Thank you to all of the OWH Stars and Stamps blog team for their dedication to encouraging us to make cards for our Heroes while Sandy is cruising!

Operation Write Home Mideweek Throwdown Challenge - Die Cuts and Punches

This week's Midweek Throwdown Challenge from Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps blog is Die Cuts & Punches.  I was going to do a card with my Spellbinders Sprockets dies, but I am fighting with them right now because all of my ideas have ended up in the wastebasket (actually they went into my woodstove, lol!).  I decided to call a truce with them for awhile and I made this card using a pre-colored digi from PcCrafter instead.  The sentiment uses another Spellbinders die - Labels One.  I feel a bit better knowing that I at least got some cards made today and I think the little boy turtle is really cute, so I will have at those Sprockets tomorrow!

Thanks for visiting my blog today.  Hope your day is going great.
