OWH Sketch Challenge 105 and Midweek Throwdown Challenge Glitter Free Bling!

I made this card for two challenges from Operation Write Home.  The first challenge is the Sketch 105 challenge.
The second challenge was to use bling on our cards without using any glitter.  I used some rhinestones and glued them on with Glossy Accents to make sure they don't come off.  I really enjoyed making this card.  I made the background by stamping the phone with distress ink and then stamping over with a script stamp inked up with distress ink.

  • Script stamp from Recollections

  • Distress ink for script stamp Ranger Vintage Photo

OWH MidWeek Throwdown Challenge - Color Challenge

This week's Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown is  a Color Challenge.  We are to use black and white with a splash of another color.  I chose to use red as an accent.  I love this vintage digital image from Digital 2 for Tuesday.  Her blog offers free vintage images.  Most of them are in black and white, but some are in color as was this one.  I have been wanting to make this card for awhile (like so many other of those cards waiting in the back of my mind!), and this week's challenge gave me an excuse to sit down and figure everything out.

  • Image from Digital 2 for Tuesday
  • Digi Sentiment from Scrap-a-licious Times (another freebie blog)
  • Martha Stewart Punch
  • DP from Micheal's Reflections line (off the rack not the paper pad, lol!)
  • Ribbon and rhinestone heart from my stash
We actually have sun today, yay!  Thanks for visiting!

Missing You

I didn't have any missing you cards in my box for Operation Write Home and it is getting close to its departure date at the end of this week.  I decided to use a really cute pre-colored image from Shelly Comiskey's Kitten Kaboodle collection from Daisy Co. and make a card for our heroes to send home.  I am also entering it into the Our Daily Bread January Challenge at OWH Stars & Stamps to use 3 patterned papers.

Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge 103

This week's OWH Sketch Challenge has a fun way to place elements on a card.
I decided to make a Mother's Day card since I was pretty sure I could quickly make a card with butterflies.  I also was pretty excited when I started mentally reviewing my card and realized that my Martha Stewart punch that has been sitting around for a long time awaiting my "someday I will have Copics and color in this punch because I can't figure out how to use it" excuse to be over.  I have Copics now, so I punched the border in white cardstock and colored it with my Copics.  I was also REALLY excited when I discovered that my random choice of the RV17 Copic marker that I used to color the flowers MATCHED some new cardstock I had just purchased (on sale, of course) at JoAnn's.  To suggest a trellis, I used another Martha Stewart punch for the first panel.

  • OWH Sketch 103
  • Martha Stewart punches
  • Tim Holtz embossing folder Bricked
  • Darice Botanical Mix cardstock
  • Reflections pearls
  • Computer generated sentiment (Font AngsanaNew)
  • Copics &G63, YG67, RV17
Thanks for visiting my blog.  Comments are always appreciated!

OWH Mid-Week Throwdown Challenge - Did You Get Something Crafty for Christmas

Operation Write Home's Mid-week Throwdown Challenge asks the question Did You Get Something Crafty for Christmas?  And the answer to that question is, yes!

Digital Delights had a year-end sale and my dear husband gave me the go ahead to buy some digis for Christmas.  This is one of them.  As I have mentioned before, I am obsessed with people or animals that sit.  I was pretty amazed to find that I had the plaid paper already in my stash that actually matches this pre-colored digi.  I also bought her in black and white so I will have to try out some Copics one of these days.

  • OWH Sketch 47
  • Paper from Paper Pizzaz
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Swiss Dots
  • Martha Stewart punch
That should do it on the deets.  Thanks for looking!

OWH Sketch Challenge 102

Operation Write Home's Sketch challenge 102

from two weeks ago was a sketch that I knew immediately what card I would make.  Unfortunately I didn't get my card made until this weekend and so I am posting it today.  I will still post it on the Stars and Stamps blog anyway, though.

  • Image is pre-colored digi from Beverly Luedecke's Easter Fun Times collection from Daisy Co.
  • OWH Sketch 102
  • Spellbinders Oval dies
  • Sizzix Dots Large embossing folder

I am truly grateful for Jan Hunnicut's blog She's Gone Digital.  She made this card
Card by Jan Hunnicut @ She's Gone Digital
and totally gave me a way to use my new Hero Arts stamp on my card.  I had made my image for a 3 inch circle with a 3.25 inch background circle and it was NOT letting me fit my sentiment onto my card.  AGGGH!  I was so proud of myself for coloring my digi with my Copics.  I was not going to give up!  So, I turned to Jan.  She doesn't know how many times I have found a way to make a card by looking at her site.  Thank you, Jan!

If anyone visiting my blog is new to card making, visit her blog.  Jan is very generous with sharing her techniques and showing links for various sites.

My card details:
  • Image Puppy Hugs from Czes Pachella at Cuddly Buddly
  • Copics
  • Sizzix embossing folder Large Dots
  • DP from Provo Craft mat stack
  • Sketch from Jan

If It's Easter, It's Time for Mother's Day!

I get confused about what themes to use on my cards sometimes since we make our cards for OWH so far in advance of the season we are actually in.  I have decided that I will work one season ahead of the one I am in so I can keep things straight!  With that in mind, I started on my Easter cards with this cute little chickie.  I realized I had some DP that I have been hoarding for eons since I just love it so much.  But, I felt good about matching it up with this image and letting it go.

  • Image is a pre-colored digi from Julie Dobsen Miner's collection East Dumplings from PcCrafter
  • OWH Sketch 1
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder Swiss Dots
  • Paper from my stash

Hero Arts Stamp and Die Set

Christmas (hubby) was very good to me this year!  I received a lot of awesome new card making supplies, including this stamp and die set from Hero Arts & Sizzix called Butterflies #3.  Of course I had to make multiple cards in different colors!
I didn't note which card was colored with what technique, but some were colored with colored pencils and some were colored with watercolor pencils and blended with a Copics blender pen.

  • Hero Arts & Sizzix Butterflies #3 stamps and Framelits dies
  • Cuttlebug Script embossing folder
  • Sizzix Big Die Tags
  • Fiskars crimping tool
  • Various Ranger distress inks to distress the edges of the white background
  • Hero Arts sentiment stamp

OWH Mid-Week Throwdown Challenge - Thank You!!

This week's challenge at Operation Write Home is to make a thank you card for our heroes to send home to their family and friends.  I made my card last week, but with the son and husband online so much, I never got to posting my card.  We are also honoring our retiring shipper, Dixie, for her time and dedication to a job that must be, at times, overwhelming.  Thank you, Dixie!

  • Thank You stamp from Hero Arts
  • Papers from my mat stack stash
  • Sketch is a variation of OWH sketch 65
