OWH Sketch 74

OWH newest sketch (Sketch here) features a large circle.  I replaced that circle with a large heart printed with clipart from Carolyn Shores Wright's collection Flights of Fancy from PcCrafter.com.    This also fits in with the current mid-week challenge of making a love-themed card.  Details:  background cardstock embossed with Craft Concept's Budding Vine embossing folder, Martha Stewart punch for the one-inch center strip, and pink polka-dot dp from K&C Company's Best of Brenda Walton.  The blue cardstock distressed a little bit when it was embossed, but I think it looks nice that way.  The only thing I might have added to this card was a bit of inking around the heart or some stitching, but I am still pretty new to cardmaking and it doesn't always occur to me to add those embellishment before finishing my card!  Thanks for looking!

Dustin Pike's Red, White, & Blue Challenge

Dustin Pike's DoodleDragon Studios current challenge is red, white, and blue (Dustin Pike Challenge).  Since Operation Write Home's deadline for 4th of July has passed, I needed to find a theme for this color combo.  I saw it on my son!  He has always loved red, so I colored this image with a red shirt and blue shorts and added some red checked paper to a blue card base, used a Spellbinders die to cut out some blue stars and mounted them with white star shaped eyelets.  The sentiment is embossed and should fit a birthday or hello card.  Thanks for looking!

OWH Midweek Love You Theme Challenge

I made this card for Operation Write Home's Love You themed challenge (OWH Stars & Stripes Blog)using clipart from PcCrafter artist Carolyn Shores Wright's collection Bird Life 1.   The paper is from my stash of ancient paper pads.  I love this image and I think it conveys a sense of togetherness and fun times.

OWH Back to School - Weekly Challenge Card

Operation Write Home's weekly challenge (OWH Stars & Stripes Blog) for this week is to make a back to school card for our troops.  I made a card featuring the artwork from Laurie Furnell's collection Star Student.  I think this makes a cute card for someone's child or even for a teacher in the family.   The clipart and backgrounds (except the red part) all come from her collection at PcCrafter.com.

OWH Challenge - Thanksgiving!

Operation Write Home's Challenge for this week is to make a Thanksgiving card.  It felt weird to bring out the orange and black colors right now - I am definitely in a purple and green mood!  It was fun however to go through my Thanksgiving images and pick one to make a card with.  I chose a fun group from Tina Ledbetter's collection Sweet Fall Pets (PcCrafter artist).  I think they make a cute card.

Love!

For OWH Sketch 71, I used stamping, embossing, and DP.  Supplies used are a dollar stamp from JoAnn's stamped with Memento Grape Jelly, paper from a D&C paper pad called Best of Brenda Walton,  Craft Concepts' embossing folder Budding Vine, Spellbinder's Labels 3, Cuttlebug's Textile and Swiss Dots folders, and a Purple Pearl Pen.  The butterfly is made with a Martha Stewart punch that comes with three stamps  To give the butterfly some shine and dimension, I used Crackle Accents.
Here is a photo showing the embossing at a better angle:

Dustin Pike Challenge It's a Boy Thing!

Dustin Pike has a new challenge called It's a Boy Thing!  http://dustinpike.blogspot.com/2011/06/challenge-its-boy-thing.html  This challenge is right up my alley because I just got a bunch of digis from him over the Memorial Day weekend.  I have been impatiently waiting to make this card, hoping it would turn out as I imagined.  I like how it looks, especially with the brick background.  I used a DP from JoAnn's, stamped the sentiment with a Verve stamp from their set Dude, and then emobssed it with Tim Holtz's embossing folder Bricked.  I embossed some black cardstock with Cuttlebug embossing folder Tiny Mosaic to simulate blacktop.  I know blacktop doesn't look like that, but that is all I could come up with.  We need Cuttlebug to make some kind of tire track type embossing folder!  This card, like all of my cards, goes to Operation Write Home.

Another thank you card for Ciara, starring Ciara!

Here is another thank you card for Ciara's special project starring the special lady herself.  Her Mom, Sandy, drew her for us.  Ciara is lucky to have such a talented Mom!

Thank You Card for Ciara Allnock's Special Project

Ciara Allnock has a special project to get a whole box of thank you cards ready to go within 2 weeks.  She has asked her Facebook fans to help her out.  I made four of these cards this evening.  I will probably try and make another four but different cards by tomorrow so I can mail them off to her on Monday.   I used her Mom's (Sandy's) design idea for my card.   The graphic is from Daisy Company artist Michelle Anderson's collection Americana.

Ciara Allnock - Missing You Card

Ciara's Mom, Sandy Allnock, has generously made digi stamps of Ciara for us to use on our cards.  I was looking through the drawings and was completely taken in by the big eyes on this digi.  I have six (yes 6!) pairs of eyes that look just like that every morning as my gang await their puppy toast.  They each get a bit of toast in memory of my Mom.  When she lived with us, she used to give one of my dogs a piece of her toast.  Since then, the crowd has grown, and the dog my Mom gave toast to is still here though my Mom is not.  Since I can't give only one dog a piece of toast, they all have to have some.  That is how I decided to try and color a digi stamp - I have a whole crew of dogs, I should be able to color one, right?  I knew I wanted her hat to be red, so that was easy.  I knew I wanted to use a paper with stars...well, that part didn't work out, so Ciara is among a bunch of daisies instead.  I embossed the red with a paw print embossing plate from Fiskars and added a buckle made from a Spellbinders die.

(Close up of embossing.  Ciara's eyes look odd because the Glossy Accents is causing a reflection.)

I also used my Pearl Pen in black for the button on Ciara's hat.  I colored the daisy centers in red (they were a kind of light orange before), added Glossy Accents to their centers and to Ciarra's eyes.  Sandy has been showing thought bubbles a lot, so I thought I would try those out and found some in my Photoshop brushes and added a sentiment (also from Sandy).    I struggled a bit with this card. (Especially when my Pearl Pen "farted" on my card.  I mean I made sure the stuff was at the tip of the bottle - I had even made a test pearl and everything - but when it came to the real deal - pffft!  a fart and black pearl pen was in a blob on my card and had even sprayed out over the background paper.  Luckily it ended up on a white daisy and my trusty white gel pen covered up the damage.  I had the WHOLE card made and was adding the Pearl Pen last.  Luckily full disaster was averted by a cover-up!)

I think Miss Ciarra looks really cute and I am delighted to be able to make a card with her on it.

Hugs from Old Friends by Teresa Kogut

I finished this card last night, but didn't have time to post it.  It comes from PcCrafter artist Teresa Kogut's collection Old Friends.  I used OWH Sketch 36 because I have a really cool circular saying from a stamp I got from I don't know where and the sketch showed a circle as a design element.  Perfect fit!

Fairydoodler TeddyBo and TeddyBea Missing You

I had just finished this card and, while waiting for my card to upload to my image hosting site, I hopped over to the Stars and Stripes blog and found out the OWH challenge this week is to use green and purple.  What a coincidence!  I thought I was excited enough just realizing  I had a verse (courtesy of Sandy Allnock - free digi on OWH website) to use with this image from Fairydoodler; now I have a card to enter in an OWH challenge - hoo doggie!
